Welcome

Thank you for visiting my page. My name is Jenny O'Dell, and I graduated from the Muscular Therapy Cortiva Institute in Watertown, Massachusetts in February 2007. My schooling focused on a more therapeutic style of massage developed by Ben Benjamin, integrating neuromuscular and myofascial release with other relaxing modalities to bring the body deeper into healing.

Over the years I have fine tuned my intuitive muscle work skills to create a wonderful blend of relaxation techniques that “hide” the deeper work and allow the body to ease into the transition of rest. When the body is allowed to feel safely at ease in my hands, the real healing can begin. I have a sincere respect for the muscular system and honor its limits while gently encouraging it to stretch and soften. I love working with individuals who need a place where they can come and relax- sink deep into the table, yet feel like they are receiving productive work for their body. Who says you can't have a deeply relaxing massage AND work out migraine tension, shoulder pain and hips that are causing sciatic pain? I look at your tension patterns as exactly what they are: patterns. I follow the trail head with intuition and curiosity and work with you to find the root of it so that you can experience relief in your body.

In 2009, I  left the field of massage to pursue motherhood. I have since created three wonderful children who are the highlight of my life.  Being a mother has given me a more maternal perspective when caring for clients. I  have the ability to understand what the pregnant mother is experiencing and find many ways to create comfort for her while on the table, and allow her to experience thorough body work to support her body through her pregnancy. Working with a mother from the first trimester, to meeting their little one after their arrival, is one of the most rewarding aspects of my prenatal work. Those newborn snuggles are magical after supporting their mother for 7 or so months.

2021 introduced me to Bowenwork. It is a gentle modality that has profound calming effects on the body. It is my preferred modality of choice. I believe when given the full opportunity for this work to integrate into the body, you can achieve longer lasting relief from discomfort and makes future massages or Bowenwork sessions all the more effective. If you are familiar with myofacial, lymphatic and craniosacral modalities, Bowenwork is similar in that in the beginning of a treatment plan there are more frequent visits and they span out over time. I do my best to achieve maintenance with clients as soon as the body permits.

To round out my practice, I also offer support in what I refer to Connected Conversations. These are  embodiment conversations that are held to help a client grab their life line and connect their body's wisdom, to their mind's. The ultimate goal in these sessions is for the client to learn to unwind their tension patterns that are held in the body and the mind and identify how it's effecting their daily life... and then make a choice to feel differently. To live differently. To choose differently by honoring the values and boundaries they have learned to identify as true to themselves. Holding space for this is such an honor. Transformations in these moments when done over tea through zoom, in person, or in tandem with a hands on bodywork session are awe inspiring.

When I am not at the studio, you’re likely to find me strolling around Portsmouth with the kids, (very likely at Strawbery Banke or the Seacoast Science Center), puttering in the gardens of my new home in Eliot,  indulging at Shain's of Maine Ice Cream Shop, going to various museums, spending a day at the beach or Lake Wentworth, enjoying the local Seacoast music scene ( have you checked out some of the local cover band greats- Truffle,  Now is Now, Rhythm Method, Jumbo Circus Peanuts and Johnny Wad and the Cash??) , belting out big band swing and R&B soul with my band, The Rockingham Groove, or singing with the Community Chorus at South Berwick!

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be to this work. It will be my sincere pleasure to work with you.

Sincerely and in Gratitude
Jenny O
